“Imran Khan refuses to hold polls in the party”: Reports

imran-khan-ijt-2Saleema Khasdar Khan

There are reports from within Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf  that Imran Khan is facing intense internal opposition over his irrational and illogical stance on many issues including his criticism of the war on terror.  A large group of liberals, who joined Tehreek-e-Insaaf because of the party’s platform of  constitutionalism, rule of law and independence of judiciary, is now clamouring for elections which were promised by Imran Khan in May – a promise that he has backtracked on.

Imran Khan is generally seen as an honest and clean politician.  He should refrain from doing what other politicians have been doing for a decades.   He should hold elections immediately and accept the verdict of the party he has created.    He must realize that for PTI has to come into its own for it to be the party he claimed it would be – a true party of the people, based on free elections and general will.  By  thwarting the requirement of free intra-party polls,  Imran Khan is stifling the party that he has helped create.

There is no denying that Imran Khan is the only recognizable figure that the party has.   It is unlikely that he would be toppled from his leadership,  if that is indeed his concern.   What elections will do is make Imran Khan accountable to wishes and the desires of the people who actually make up Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf.   It will also make him realize that doling out party posts to lotas such as the new General Secretary of Rawalpindi is not a move that has gone down with those who have toiled for the party all through out the Lawyers’ Movement and even before.  Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf must be allowed to evolve into a party in the western tradition – out of Imran’s shadow and Imran Khan must allow this to happen.

    Who are these sources?
Someone from MQM,PPP,PML or noone knows.
I have been an active part of PTI and PTI has since very first day decided to hold elction after the memebership compaign ends….
It seems to be a propaganda based on lies………..

    Shame on you…

By the way you nowhere mentioned the name of your source……………

A lier will be put in the hell,a promise by God….
A nice promise from GOD so that he can stop people from lying….
What if womeone is non Muslims
    he certainly can lie

Is Imran Khan holding intra-party polls in May?

  3. Majumdar

Just to give you an Indian perspective. Most parties do hold intra-party elections but the top most post is usally the fiefdom of the Family- INC and most regional parties subscribe to this rule. BJP and the CPM are exceptions although in both cases, the elections are thoroughly controlled by extraconstitutional bodies- the RSS in the first case and His Majesty the Celestial Emperor in the second.

I never saw PTI spokesperson other than IK and some female (woman i saw some 2 yrs before on some show) .Intra party poll is interesting thing for the parties whom really have some Vibrant individuals .Currently PTI does not have any such person except one columnist Haroon Rasheed who tries publicizing PTI further i am sure that he is not member of PTI yet ,he should join PTI as AYAZ amir did for his love PML N .It seems to me that Either they really lack better speaker or its their policy to gain vote in the name of IK.so if some elections happen there I dont think some other could bubble up except IK …

    @tahir
    Your words :

“A lier will be put in the hell,a promise by God….
A nice promise from GOD so that he can stop people from lying….
What if womeone is non Muslims
    he certainly can lie”

Thank you for your comment. You have just proved why PTI is such an irresponsible and childish party. Good PR effort on your part for your party 🙂

Is this how you react when you face criticism?

  6. adeel khan

Absolutely rubbish thing that someone else can become PTI chief in the presence of Imran Khan. A false propaganda against Imran Khan to let him down. I personally feel that the who himself created a party can ever lose Inter-party election on a small opposition like what is mentioned in the above article. There are due difference amongst the members of the party with their leader but it does not lead to such a consequence. I think that elections at this time won’t be a good idea and those who are interested in having inter-party polls should wait for another a year or so.

  7. tahir

    @Sarah
Now you are resorting on emotional blackmailing.
How can a white lie be criticism?

A lie is to hide the truth.
While criticism is all about why you dislike something or some person…….
    They both are totally different…….

As far as election are concerned, the date has not been announced. What has been announced is,election would be held after compaign ends.

PTI has also announced that elections would be held after every three years within the party…..

  8. yasserlatifhamdani

    adeel,

I think the writer recognizes the fact if you read the article.

    Tahir,

It is May 15th today… for this article to be a “white lie”, Imran would have to hold the polls within the next 15 days.

    i love imran khan thinking.

Shouldn’t there be a semi-colon between the fourth and fifth words? Just curious about the grammar in question.

  11. Avnish

@Adeel – disagree – case in point is the INC back in the day when Subhash Chandra Bose was billed to win intra-party elections against Mahatma Gandhi himself – while the Raj was still flourishing at the expense of the subcontinent.

i dont see any normal fuctionality in those brain who see nothing in whatever imran khan says or does, but they r ok with alot of loyality, character and honesty in those other leaders (hyenas) of our nation..a victim of an inferiority would never approve whatever IK says or does. alas! 80% of our nation is suffering from this desease(inferiority) which they think is their power, cuz of being in majority.. these people just got an obsolete mouth installed on their faces so they can speak and others have to hear. NO offense!

Who says there is no feudal in Pakistan. Rural Pakistan is control by the feudal, even in urban areas one can see the people who work hard and other exploit the situation and make money in the name of religion or family lands. Our ruling class of so called politicians is from feudals and then industrialist follow them for power in authoritarian society. Law making body-the Majlish Shora, parliament -the senate , national assembly, provincial assembly and district council , every where the members are feudal, indusrialists, drug barons and /or Rtd. corrupt police officers with few Rtd, army officers as well. The writer of the this article and a leading scholar Dr. Aisha Siddiqa is also from feudal class with extra ordinary intelligence. I agree with some people that one should do some thing instead of suggestions. I have done some thing by leaving my home land as it’s hopeless there; unless there is rule of law not the law of ruler and we should follow the rule accordingly. Very simple law of inheritance can change our country’s future. What ever law we follow, Islamic or British- Muslim personal law, the property should be divided accordingly after the death of a person in a reasonable time but what happen in our country- this is the basic problem. If division of property is done by the law, there will be no feudal and if there is no feudal: the country will flourish. See rest of the world specially the developed world where majority people from under developed countries want to come. All the best for the rest of the people all over the world. Why don’t we hold these criticisms against the major parties which actually have other members with potential leadership abilities, for example the PPP or any sub-group of PML, or the MQM? This is just propaganda against Imran Khan. No matter what you say about him, do you know of any other politician who has done so much for Pakistan in his non-political capacity? Has President Zardari ever constructed a world class cancer hospital, or has Mr. Nawaz Sharif ever built a world class university in an under-developed area that needs attention? And btw, has this stupid person who’s making up this story done for Pakistan? Oh I know, she’s trying to destroy the goodwill of the only viable alternative leader we have who doesnot belong to the PML or PPP.

  15. ylh

    Sk,

Mian I didn’t know that we were supposed to hold Imran Khan on the same level as other leaders of Pakistan?

Has he held those intra-party polls yet ? Or no?

    If he hasn’t, he should.

  16. imran khan should be realized his personality and ought to be saspended his self from his party.

  17. :P:P:P:P imran khan like a BULANDAR:P:P:P:P

  18. So when will IK hold party polls?

every party’s name is its (party’s) victim, so no surprise if P T Insaf does the same.

  21. YLH

So has Imran Khan held intra-party polls yet?

  22. Marwan

Islam is victim of JI, Ulima Islam are victims of JUI (F), peoples are victim of PPP, puktoon are victims of ANP, Nation is victim of MQM and Muslims are victim of PML(N),(Q) (F) & (A) and Balochs are victims of BNP, BLA & BLM!!!

  23. Ayesha

Don’t hold your breath for the polls. Until the divorce, Jemima was head of the women’s wing—what qualified her other than the fact that she was IK’s wife? After the divorce, the post has gone to Khurshid Kasuri (yes, of PML-Q)’s brother’s wife. In the 2002 election, IK’s candidate from a key Islamabad constituency was Ahmad Raza Kasuri, yes the same one who was hounded by the lawyers later for his active involvement against the lawyers’ movement. So—anybody who thinks PTI tickets are going to go down through elections or based on merit needs to rethink.

  24. mUHAMMAD ALAMGIR

We, thePeople of Pakistan are generous to the extent of stupidity . We voted the two major parties to power three to four times each , in the federal and provincial govts. But they did nothing, except looting the national exchecker mercilessly and leaving the country under heavy foriegn debts. Today Pakistan is without energy ( electricity ), clean water, fertilizer, sugar, flour, medicine, gas, oil, etc All these political leaders of today are dacoits, thieves, murderer, comission agents, land mafia, drug mafia, rapist, drunkards and etc.etc and we all know it very well.

Imran khan is a new entry.Without going into debate about his past character and affiliations, let us be generous to give him one and only one chance and vote him to power to head the next govt. Who know s, he can prove to be the Mahatir Muhammad of Pakistan.

  25. Ammar

Democracy cannot flourish unless it is implemented in its true spirit. Inter party polls are important as they determine the future ambitions and aspirations of the party members. Perhaps Imran Khan is hesitant over holding polls as many of the liberal elements in his party are disgruntled over his pro-Taliban stance.

    Oh Shut the fuck up

  27. sana

I don’t want to go into other details all I know is that right at the moment when our country is going through the worst time we need an honest and PAKISTANI leader who don’t ve foreign bank accounts like Nawaz,Altaf and Zardari. Therefore I think 4 the betterment of Pakistan we should give him a chance 2 lead us. Let’s try him wha u guyz say?

  28. Zoya

I agree 2 Sana. I also want to see change in pak which definitely IK can bring about. So nxt time I,ll vote him.

  29. asim khan

  30. Imran Khan, interesting guy he is. What stopped him holding elections before 18th amendment ?

Is it another viscous attempt to make fool of his voters (teenage fans) ?

  31. nazir allahwalla

    suggestion:
make Imran life president of the party so he is sure not to lose his seat.
Then go ahead with the elections. This will ensure Imran he is still the boss.
Imrans party is a good one i like his ideology. If i were to ever join a party in pakistan it will be Imrans.
