Happy Birthday Allama Iqbal

Today is the birthday of Pakistan’s National Poet/Philosopher Dr. Muhammad Iqbal’s Birthday.    This above is a beautiful song that he wrote so many years ago and which has become the anthem of Pakistan’s children.

    It is a beautiful song. The children singing it are beautiful and innocent too.

    A pity that even they are not being spared by the terrorists.

    Those who thump their chest for making Pakistan cannot have it both ways- secular state as well as championing Iqbal’s 2 nation theory.

    I am not going to comment on your conceptions of the words you use… tnt, secular state etc…

    All I ask is … what is your locus standi?

    @yasserlatifhamdani

    Locus standi????? None whatsoever. Neither he, nor any other of the fly-bys, is willing to offer anything but their own infallible opinion as proof or evidence. It is enough that they have intoned their deepest thoughts to us; we are thereafter merely called upon to strive to comprehend, to re-align ourselves and to comply with directions given as best as we can.

    Sudarshan and TM are PTH’s self-inflicted injuries.

    i do’nt mean to be rude and please excuse my ignorance. as a matter of interest when was he born the so called pakistani poet?

    Dr. Shaikh Mohammad Iqbal was born on November 9, 1877 at the city of Sialkot and died at Lahore on April 21, 1938. He was a scholar, philosopher and an inspirational poet and orator. He was a contemporary of Quaid-e-Azam, Mohammad Ali Jinnah. Commonly known as Allama (something equivalent to being a Ph. D.) Iqbal start writing poetry in Urdu/Persian languages in a very young age. This is one of his very early poems from his student years. He is considered as the National Poet of Pakistan because he, through his poetry and other literary and academic work, presented the Idea of Muslim Nationhood. He and not Jinnah was the architect of the Two-nation Theory in the British India context. Therefore it is only befitting that he be honored as a Pakistani Poet.

    A very good work by Allama Iqbal was the reconstruction of religious thought in Islam.

    It is a good attempt to provide a metaphorical angle to events narrated in the Holy Quran and in other places in Islamic History
