Well now comes the next part i.e. what to do with the current CJ Dogar? Will he accept demotion?
Will Nawaz quit at this stage or continue to act as he is and in that process expose himself as a power hungry guy?

  2. Sidra

    Congratulations to everybody at PTH!

  3. Aamir

God bless Pakistan, God bless Iftikhar Chaudhary, God bless all those who sacrificed for the restoration of judiciary. May those be destroyed who planned to opposed CJ’s reinstatement.

Anwar the issue was resolved as Dogar will retire on the 22nd of this month.

Lal, thanks :)… you asked me a question yesterday. Well on Friday my calculations were that the whole thing will be resolved by Sunday … and we – the Islamabad lawyers- would not have to take a day off on Monday.

  9. simply61

Chalo this incident seems to be resolved for the time being atleast without any blood being spilled. Not sure though about tensions easing amidst the main players…Zardari,Gilani,Sharif and ofcourse Kayani.I feel the mistrust between them is bound to come out in another form soon.Any news on Sherry Rehman’s resignation? Was that accepted or withdrawn?

Mubarak to All on this good news. Hope Z learns a lesson !!

At last good news from Pakistan. It is proof that if we struggle for the right cause and persevere, victory comes at the end.

NO to oppression, injustice, intolerance and extremism. YES to justice for all Pakistanis.

    PAKISTAN ZINDABAD!

Thank you lawyers, civil society leaders, and youth of Pakistan

Will CJ Iftikhar Chaudhry stand up to Mullah Mafia??
    Time will tell!!!

Good news. And congratuilation to every Pakistani on news of CJ reinstatement.

I pray CJ Iftikhar Ch can allow retrial of 1974 Ahmadis case in an open court, or at the very least order 1974 National Assembly proceedings that declared Ahmadis “non-Muslim” to be made public, especially when more than 30 years have passed. Unlike 1971 war and defeat Hammud Ur Rehman inquiry report that had national security issues and has been made public few years ago, 1974 Ahmadies trial has no national security issues. I hope those proceedings can be made public.

Pakistan is an artificial creation. Most if not all difficulties faced by Pakistan are also “man-made disasters”. That country is not investing in its people. Are Afghans not human. Are Pakistanis ot human. Afghans have great character… so do Pakistanis. They are a Jaan-baaz and Dildaar race. We have to retain that GOD-GIFTED boom or strength of inherent and true goodness (and not the fake goodness of the Baniya); while quoting it with “Education”. Unfortunately, Afghanis, Pakistanis are in the “Chalo..” mode. Idhar doobey – udhar nikle… for how long ? Iqbal’s poetry has been the source of great joy for Muslims of the sub-continent., but sometimes i feel it led to very dangerous consequences. The Muslim Nation of the Indian Sub-continent was NOT ready yet. The ground work was not complete. Muslims neglected Secular Education for 100 years… and when starvation was staring them in the face… and when they saw young Hindu men speaking english, wearing suits and getting clerical jobs… they woke up… got sherwanis stitched… and went to Aligarh. Muslims are always 100 years late. First criticise TV / Technology… then adapt to it. Basically Muslims have a very closed-mind-set., and are not science-friendly. What an irony, that Islam is extremely science-friendly and knowledge-friendly. The word ILM appears 300 times in the Quran ! No Govt. gave attention to Education. There were pressing issues., where was the luxury of long-term planning.

One has to go deep and speak ugly truths. Pakistan’s quest for “greater land-depth” is out of fear of an indian on-slaught vis-a-vis Kashmir issue. Had there been no Kashmir issue., would Pakistan have gone in for the “greater-land-depth” option ? India is NOT willing to connect the dots Afghan-Pakistan-Kashmir… which was very correct. Unfortunately Obama Hillary and their envoy Holbrooke caved in. Key to peace is Kashmir.

If India does not want to give Kashmir to Pakistan (to which it rightfully belongs., as it derives its title from the June 3, 1947 plan; which is the basis of the partition of india); the other option is to absorb the whole of Pakistan (and Bangladesh) into India., and examine the whole issue de-novo.

There are 2 systems in Canada… why cant we have a liberal federal structure. Thats all that Jinnah wanted… What Jinnah wanted is the same as Sarkaria Commission (in India). The Danda and Goonda-gardi and threat of Governor Raj… that must be removed… Unfortuantely there is no leader in India. Narendra Modi and Mayavati are the inheritors of Gandhi ji’s legacy… while Shahbaz Sharif and Zardari are of Jinnah. Bangladesh (E. Bengal / E. Pakistan / i.e.) is left to God / Allah / Eashwar / Yehuda…

To realise economies of scale, to contain the ugly fundamentalists (be they safforn … or green).., a United States of India is an utopian dream… but truly a blockbuster idea.

Fake identities… cannot survive for long. These things (cultural commerce… and setting the die) take centuries… You cannot manufacture nations based on emotions.

    Jai Ho.

    Dastagir,

Whenever I see Pakistan and India quarreling over Kashmir, I always want to ask, “Hey, why not listen to what Kashmiris want?”

The reality is that at the time of partition, every state got to choose where it wanted to be. Kashmir did not get the right to plebiscite. The accession document was signed by Hari Singh on behalf of all Kashmiris, which was not right.

I believe Kashmiris should decide where and how they want to be.

Talking of the reinstatement of CJ Iftikhar, it is a good development. The forces of democracy will be strengthened.

    @Dastagir

Yeah…wtf? “Pakistan is artifical”? These putrefied, stale arguments are particularly boring to read. Seriously, if you wish to attack Pakistan (and it’s an international past time these day, we are the most fashionable of whipping boys of late) at least show a spark of individuality and freshness. It seems the “One” Baharat Indian mentality, just like Bollywood, loves to copy, paste and recycle ad nauseum ad infinitum.

Seriously, put away the bong pipe…who in their right mind could ever suggest the reacquisition of two sovereign states into India and a “de novo” partition? Scary stuff.

  17. simply61

Dastagir when you yourself are so busy hating RSS and the Bania(quote: “and not the fake goodness of the Baniya”) why are you talking about absorbing two whole sovereign nations into India( which has both the Bania and the RSS)?…..Are you planning an “akhand sub-continent” of sorts(RSS ka asar)?
Artificial or not,Pakistan has existed for 61 years now and if it has problems then it is for the people of Pakistan to solve them…..dismantling a state or absorbing it into ánother hardly sound like solutions.

Next few days will be very exciting time in Pakistan politics especially from the point of view of Zardari. Any guesses what his political future will be like?

  20. simply61

Exciting time for the nation and its people? Yes,definitely.Zardari’s future? What future? He just shot himself in the foot.

  21. lal

Ya it is time for me to go one up it seems….remember in a post some time ago ‘he who must not be named’ asked nationalistic jingoistic selfrighteous guy like me,y dont we trust sardari and give him a chance to prove his sincerity…seems ‘you know who ‘got his answer 🙂

  22. stuka

There is no way Dastagir is Indian.

  23. rhodoraonline

    To Amber and Simply61:
“What will Zardari do next?” This is indeed an interesting question worth thinking about. He doesn’t seem like a man who will quietly wait for his doom. Any ideas? Kindly read the ONE possibility that I and, I know, MANY of us dream and hope for, at my blog http://structureofentropy.wordpress.com and vote your opinion at the attached poll. Also leave your comments as to what are Zardari’s options and what cats he can yet pull out of his bag. This is the BIG question of the moment!

  24. Yes we can!
A small but necessary victory. The civil society has to do a lot more. Time to get back to work…

  25. simply61

Always suspected that Dastagir is not an Indian and now he has confirmd that by using the word ‘baniya’ in his post……..LOL

  26. yasserlatifhamdani

While Pakistan is not any more artificial than any other nation state on the planet, I agree with most of what Dastagir has to say … especially this part:

  27. simply61

YLH,what Jinnah wanted was a good 60+ years ago.Tab ho jaata to woud have worked. Now 3 nations have existed and gone on to establish their own identities(under- bellies and all).I do not think a merger of any sort now will work.Too many mutual suspicions, aggaravated and heightened religious identity baggages………
If any merger has to happen, at a later date, the 3 nations will have to iron out their very mutual hostilties first, get to some state of civilised neighbourly relationship before any loose federal ‘jhappi’ can be initiated.Partition was an unnatural decision thrust on the people and at present a federal union will also be an unnatural one in my(humble shumble) opinion.

  28. Dastagir

To be an Indian., you have to hate / abuse / curse Pakistan., eh ! Is that the criterea. Is that the bar of definition. Hunh ! Afsos… What a tragedy… the level of discourse is so low in Pakistan. Pakistan has become a fast-food-restaurant… an eatery… always in “Chalo” Mode. Nations are not governed in “chalo” mode. There has to be a world-view, a strategic vision. Fact of the matter is., that Pakistan is not running. If for historical reasons., Pakistan cannot “merge” with india., then what option it has. Break apart bit-by-bit like Somalia ? Is that wishing Pakistan well. Are Pakistan and Bangladesh sovereign states ? If so, what are the US Planes/ Drones doing in Pakistan. Showering flowers… Hunh ! Read Z.A. Bhutto’s book “The Myth of Sovereignity”. Level of Pakistani student., and his academic excellence is extremely poor… not to use stronger language. Unless the Pakistani Educational Apparatus / Sylabbus / books / class-rooms / school infrastructure / appointment of teachers (if they are not available in Pakistan., bring them from elsewhere)… is given its due attention., Pakistan would get weak in the roots… and then you have Matriculates like Musharraf (with 3 yrs cadet-college training)., or Matriculates like Zardari (with 1 or 2 or god knows how many years education at some education shop in London… He says he studied at LSE. LSE has no record of a student by name Asaf Zardari). Jai Ho !

The moment you say the truth… you antagonise people. Apney bhee khafaa mujh se.. be-gaaney bhee naaraaz… I want peace in India and Pakistan.. so i criticise both the RSS and the Mullah who are negative forces… that must be marginalised (cuz they cant be totally eliminated. There is a “demon” in every society… the demon must be in the margins… not mainstream).

Pakistani mindset must change. They are a virile race. They think the “Danda” is the solution to everything. The bravery., the physical energy., makes a good soldier (foot-soldier). Thats why Punjab was called the sword-arm of the British Empire.

Science has rendered the “sword-arm” redundant. Now one airplane can destroy lakhs of people., and the pilot returns safe to his base.. to get ready to drop another bomb. Will pakistanis throw stones and swords at the Airplane ?

Nobody pays taxes in Pakistan. There is no sense of Governance. Who will abolish the Zamindari ? The Zamindars will call the goondas + mullahs., spend money., and create anarchy to maintain status-quo. They have destroyed Schools in Pakistan. How perverse can one be ! These are well-wishers of Pakistan… I dont think so.

You dont have to curse Pakistan to prove you are an Indian. One can wish Pakistan well… and that is the sign of a mature and decent Indian. That definition.. that way of looking at things.. that perception must change.

The best defence Pakistan can have is an empowered, enlightened people. Investing in Education. An educated Pakistani Nation is the best defence. A strong army – an educated nation – enlightened leadership… this will make the country strong from the bottom up.

Why dont Pakistani’s copy the MERITS that the Baniya has. There is a lot to learn from the Baniya. Learn Diplomacy from the Baniya… learn Politics from the Baniya… learn frugality from the Bania. The Hindus are displaying Islamic simplicity., while Pakistan has turned into a gawdy film-set.

Instead of Pakistan breaking up like Somalia., i wish it is absorbed totally into India. You need someone to compete with. That spirit of competitiveness will serve as a boost to muslim students to perform well. Diversity is a blessing. What is there to fear about. Why and how can Hinduism dissolve/weaken/absorb the muslim culture. Pakistanis are already singing Indian film songs., and dancing to Madhuri Dixit’s songs. How many indians can/ are singing Pakistani songs. Recognise the reality.. listen to the wind.. Save Pakistan… and the whole of SE Asia. If India is a bad country, then let Pakistan and Bangladesh join CHINA. So that they learn discipline, great work culture., hard work… Tao Te Ching., Confucius … and the pyramids of Chinese Wisdom. China is a great civilisation too. I firmly believe in BIG countries. I hate small countries., because they become Shadi-khanas or Rented Bases for super-power games. A nation must have mass. Area-wise., population wise., resources-wise. You cant have small dots… The dots cannot be sovereign. A mass can be. If there can be “M&A” in the corporate world., to achieve economies of scale., why not in the Political Arena ? Gimme a reason… a sensible.. mature.. valid reason..

PAKISTAN Curriculum needs a thorough review. Import teachers from England / Australia / any damn place… The budget for Education must be equal to the Military Budget… .as the former represents Soft Power… while the latter represents Hard Power… United States of America must spend billions to spread Secular Education in Afghanistan and Pakistan. That is the best investment it can make… otherwise this will remain a troubled area for a long, long time.

    @Dastagir
What is this obsession with Baniya?Baniya is just a sub caste in the myriad groupings in India. If you have to use a word, use Indian/Hindu…..Baniya has been and continues to be a predominantly trading/business community. You want whole of Pakistan to turn into traders?BTW, the education benefits were reaped most by the Brahmins(in the south.Especially the Bengali and Tamil Brahmins who are an intellectual force to reckon with in science and finance sector)and Kshatriyas. Now ofcourse all communities and castes are heavily into education.Agar gyaan dena hi hai to theek to do.Then be-gaaney bhi aapki baat sunegey and apney bhi.
Pakistanis agar Madhuri ke gaaney gaatey hain to hum bhi sab se jyaada woh songs suntey hain jis mein ‘maula,Allah’ se dua ki jaati hai.Muslim culture is deeply into our culture(more in North though)and I do not think there is any rejection of it in India.Sab galat games political level par kheli jaati hain…..hum to ab bhi dargahs par jaatey hain usi tarah jis tarah my parents and grand parents did in pre partition days.Where is the question of rejection?
And we sing to Atif Aslam’s songs but other Pakistani songs are not known here because no great films are emerging from their popular film industry.Waise aap kahein to I can sing Naeeda Noor,Mallika Pukhraj,Begum Noorjahan, Nusrat Fateh Ali,Alam Lohar and Mehdi Hassan’s songs. 🙂

Simply 61: You symbolise the syncretic beauty of Ganga-Jamuna Culture. Where both cultures (hinduism and indo-muslim) survive.. thrive.. develop.. evolve.. and grow. And with the cultures, the followers of those cultures grow too. You see the growth a culture, by looking at the followers of that culture.

Baniya : do not take it literally. It is used in the metaphorical sense… okay… Nothing personal against the Baniya. If the Baniya has dominated the Indian Economy… they must be researched… what brought them to this stage… and if there is some good in the Baniya.. what is the harm to emulate that ?

In the end… my only desire / aspiration is that all people must grow. Cumulative growth i.e. I dont want whole groups to be denied avenues of growth., cuz that will lead to resistance, violence and anarchy (call it terrorism in today’s parlance). You cannot have indian army raping poor muslim girls in Kashmir and elsewhere (abhie UP mein ek aisa neech kaand hua hai)., and expect his brother/father to sing Vande Mataram with gutso. Keep yourself in the position of the indian muslim…. the daily insults 24×7.

Look at what Varun Gandhi has uttered in Pilibhit. Maybe this is what Mrs. Indira Gandhi must have said in the 4 walls of her home… and Varun is saying it openly ! So what if Mrs. Gandhi had that mindset (Sanjay Gandhi his father too was hugely anti-muslim… Turkman Gate Demolition in Delhi… forced sterlisations of muslim schoolboys in the years 1975-77). Sorry to say this., but some say Varun Gandhi’s DNA test must be taken… as he is attributed to be the natural son of Akbar Ahmed Dumpy… son of an IPS Officer ! God knows.

What Varun says is a signal. There is no need to fear. He is showing the Lotus-hand and that he will cut necks with it ! Due to partition, the liberal space has narrowed… and India handed over to Babu Bajrangi… (Khelo Khoon Ki H0li).., while Pakistan is given to some Talibani Mullah or Fazlullah. Average peace loving citizen ki life aur value-systems destroy ho gaye.

If Pakistanis / Afghanistanis / Iranians … and add 50 other names… DO NOT give PRIME importance to Secular Education., believe me… they would become a football… and stronger forces would kick them all around the ground. Education.. Commerce.. Soft Power.. Hard Power… Scientific Development.. POLITICAL SCIENCE… Plus Mergers to achieve Economies of Scale. If they remain splintered (they stand at 53 today)… and break into 530… then what do you expect… The word “sovereign” is an insult… to those who rent bases…

United Indian sub-continent has the ability to counter defeat Babu Bajrangi / Varun Gandhi and Mullahs… because the Liberal Space will be widened. If not., Pakistan + Bangladesh… and the other small countries around the region must join China. Economies of Scale ki baat hai. As simple as that. There is no danger to Islam or to Hinduism. However in bigger UNITS or COUNTRIES with divese populations., RSS and Mullah will have difficulty to survive.

It is very simple, if one looks at it deeply. Hindutva (Ram Sena / Shiv Sena / Hanuman Sena / Bajrang Dal / Durga Vahini / Killers / murderers / rapists / arsonists) will destroy eclectic Hinduism… in the long term. Same goes for the Mullah. They will cause irreparable damage to the Islamic ideology. Look at Afghanistan… a case. (BTW, Aryans came from Afghanistan…). Religion is like a blade. It must be handled with great care… otherwise we have a nation hijacked by a Mullah / Babu Bajrangi / Varun Gandhi… That danger is very imminent. Save India from RSS., and save Pakistan from the fanatic Mullah.. so that the common man lives.. and breathes easily.

    Jai Ho.

  31. yasserlatifhamdani

    simply,

    I agree with you.

  32. @YLH
Thanks.Itna to agreement hai phir ki the problems of the 3 nations need to be faced individually and can not be wished away by conjuring up some utopian vision of a united sub-continent.
Waise interesting things happening on your side.Lawyers ne to kamaal hi kar diya.Kuch ne kalam se 🙂 and kuch ne sadak par utar ke……..may the citizen’s regain the faith in their ability to change their destinies by their own actions and d ecisions

    @Dastagir.
Thanks for your comment.I agree with many of the things you have mentioned but I won’t be discussing it here as I do not want to be another Indian hijacking a Pakistani forum to discuss Indian issues.
We can discuss those elsewhere,if you like.As for Pakistani issues……I don’t think it is for Indians to be telling them what to do and how.A nation of over 160 million people will surely find a way to impose its citizen’s will over the diktats of the army/politicians/Taliban/Mullahs….

  33. Milind Kher

    Vandana,

The victory of the lawyers is an indicator of good things to come for Pakistani democracy.

Surely, the citizens’ will has to triumph over the vested interests of the people you have mentioned. The Taliban have already shot themselves in the foot by blowing up a wall of Rahman Baba’s shrine.

Some more rash acts by them, and I am sure the people will be baying for their blood.
