In Pakistan, a Sex Industry Has Begun to Boom

SEX IN DEPTH
In Pakistan, a dark trade comes to light
By William Sparrow

BANGKOK – Prostitution in the Islamic nation of Pakistan, once relegated to dark alleys and small red-light districts, is now seeping into many neighborhoods of country’s urban centers. Reports indicate that since the period of civilian rule ended in 1977, times have changed and now the sex industry is bustling.

Early military governments and religious groups sought to reform areas like the famous “Taxali Gate” district of Lahore by displacing prostitutes and their families in an effort to “reinvent” the neighborhood.

While displacing the prostitutes might have temporarily made the once small red-light district a better neighborhood for a time, it did little to stop the now dispersed prostitutes from plying their trade. Reforming a neighborhood, instead of offering education and alternative opportunities, appears to be at the core of early failures to curb the nascent sex industry. This mistake would become a prophetic error as now the tendrils of the sex trade have become omnipresent in cities like Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Karachi and Lahore, not to mention towns, villages and rural outposts.

An aid worker for an Islamabad-based non-governmental organization (NGO) recently related a story: quickly after his arrival in the capital, he realized the house next to his own was a Chinese brothel. The Chinese ability to “franchise” the commercial sex industry by providing down-trodden Chinese women throughout Asia, North America and Europe would be admirable in a business sense if it were not for the atrocities – human trafficking, sexual slavery and exploitation – which cloud its practice.

Chinese bordellos, often operating as “massage parlors” or beauty salons, are across Pakistan, even spread even to war-torn and restive locations such as the Afghan capital Kabul. Chinese in the sex industry have developed a cunning ability to recognize areas where the demand for sex far outstrips the supply.

The NGO worker said that after months of living adjacent to the brothel things were shaken up – literally. One evening a drunk Pakistani drove his car into the brothel. Later the driver told authorities the ramming was a protest by a devout Muslim against the debauchery of the house and its inhabitants. The NGO worker, however, had seen the same car parked peacefully outside the house the night before.

The local sex industry comprised of Pakistani prostitutes has also grown in recent years. One can easily find videos on YouTube that show unabashed red-light areas of Lahore. The videos display house after house with colorfully lit entranceways always with a mamasan and at least one Pakistani woman in traditional dress. The women are available for in-house services for as little as 400 rupees (US$6) to take-away prices ranging 1,000 to 2,000 rupees. These districts are mostly for locals, but foreigners can indulge at higher prices.

Foreigners in Pakistan have no trouble finding companionship and may receive rates similar to locals in downtrodden districts. More upscale areas like Lahore’s Heera Mundi or “Diamond Market”, cater to well-heeled locals and foreigners. At these places prettier, younger girls push their services for 5,000 to 10,000 rupees for an all-night visit, and the most exceptional can command 20,000 to 40,000 rupees for just short time.

Rumors abound online that female TV stars and actresses can be hired for sex. “You can get film stars for 50,000 to 100,000 rupees but you need good contacts for that,” one blogger wrote after a trip to Lahore.

“The Lahore, Karachi and Rawalpindi sex scenes are totally changing and it’s easier and easier to get a girl for [sex],” another blogger wrote. “Most of the hotels provide you the girls upon request.” Bloggers also reported that it is easy to find girls prowling the streets after 6 pm, and foreigners can find young women hanging out near Western franchises like McDonald’s and KFC. Such women, the bloggers claim, can lead the customer to a nearby short-time accommodation.

Short-time hotels offering hourly rates can be found all over major cities, underscoring the profits being reaped by the sex industry.

Pakistan can also accommodate the gay community with prostitution. Unfortunately, this has also given rise to child prostitution.

A Pakistani blogger wrote, “We [ethnic] Pathans are very fond of boys. [In Pakistan] the wives are only [had sex with] once or twice a year. There are lot of gay brothels in Peshawar – the famous among them is at Ramdas Bazaar. [One can] go to any Afghan restaurant and find young waiters selling sex.”

As in many societies, access to technology, the Internet and mobile phones has only facilitated the sex trade in Pakistan. “Matchmaking” websites serve the male clientele, while providing marketing for prostitutes.

The root causes of prostitution in Pakistan are poverty and a dearth of opportunities. Widows find themselves on the streets with mouths to feed, and for many prostitution offers a quick fix. A local Pakistani prostitute can earn 2,000 to 3,000 rupees per day compared to the average monthly income of 2,500 rupees.

Forced prostitution is not rare. Women in hard times are often exploited and pushed into prostitution. Sandra (not her real name), said that after the death of her father she was left alone; friends and relatives deserted her after the grieving period. As a middle-class, educated woman she was surprised to find herself forced into prostitution from her office job.

“My boss initially spoiled me at first,” she told Khaleej Times. “[But] now I am in [the sex industry].” Sandra first thought her boss was being gracious, but quickly learned he was grooming her for sex for his own pleasure, and then acting as her pimp.

Many of Pakistan’s contemporary sexual mores may have evolved from traditional practices. For example, the polygamy permitted in Muslim society stemmed from the need for larger family units, the better to support familial ties and tend for widows. Until such ancient customs are updated, women such as Sandra will continue to be bought and sold.

It’s time for Pakistan to admit that prostitution is doing a roaring trade within its borders, and will continue to prosper until it is addressed in a modern manner. Let us hope that the people and government of this proud Muslim country will stop pretending the problem simply isn’t there.

  • i knew very well that the chinese massage parlors were actually brothels. i often told this fact to people but the young goody good moderate liberal modern elite types always denied and told me that i was a close-minded backward thinking individual who is stereotyping every massage girl as a whore.

now those broad minded liberals can go and $%#$ themselves.

this also proves one thing that most massage girls who cater to male clients will also provide sexual services. but again the goody good moderate liberals will have a problem recognizing this fact.

and im not judgung the massage girls in moral terms. its their own morals.

can anyone tell me why the liberal have a problem recognizing the fact that massage girls are mostly whores???

  • “Rumors abound online that female TV stars and actresses can be hired for sex. “You can get film stars for 50,000 to 100,000 rupees but you need good contacts for that,” one blogger wrote after a trip to Lahore.”

yup thats true. even some of the well known models and actresses work as high end call girls. to name a few, noor, sana, zara shaikh, sadaf (model) etc. the BLUE PARADISE CALL GIRL AGENCY in lahore can supply you with many female models and actresses.

on tv they appear all clean and nice but from inside…. inside.

  • Well Mr. Sparrow,
I wonder if you follow the basic ethics of writing, as part of your story are clearly “copy/ pasted” from another blog site that I visited few days back. If I recall correctly, its The Pakistani Spectator. You should at least clearly acknowledge the source.
Besides, how can you say that present prostitution might have stemmed from polygamy in Islam? Why is then prostitution so common in non-Islamic developing world? Why in the West have people multiple sex partners on one side and thriving red districts in every major city on the other? Sorry but this is far too complicated than what your writing suggests.
    Rgds,

  • @ SHUMAIL

the liberals are a bunch of HYPOCRITES.

they have all the ‘proper channels’ to do the debauchery themselves. they drink alcohol, do drugs, go to dance parties, clubs and hook up. they flirt and have casual sex and one-night stands

but when the average guy wants to get his sexual frustration out by visiting a hooker they will call it DISGUSTING, IMMORAL and HARAM.

and lets face it what proper sexual outlets does a regular guy has in our country. the goodlooking rich guys can seduce normal women at their workplace and their colleges, neighbourhood etc.
when it comes to casual affairs and casual sex women have very high standards.
an average guy cannot flirt and have casual sex with an average girl because if the average girl wanted sex she will simply go to the giu of higher standards and get what she wants.

women are aware of their advantage.
but when it comes to marriage they will take a f&%$ U-TURN on the looks of men policy.

  • Let us look at the humanistic side
I don’t understand all this wailing on the moral aspect of this matter. Where there is a demand there is supply. Lahore is a big and old city and every type of people live here. It has all the problems that all the big cities have in the whole world. I would like all of you to look at the whole matter from the humanistic point of view. As we have tried moral appeals for thousand years and it didn’t help at all. for me prostitution is another form of slavery and it should be seriously considered as a form of humility and disrespect of humans.

  • @ PRINGLES

“for me prostitution is another form of slavery and it should be seriously considered as a form of humility and disrespect of humans.”

and what about the high-end call girls? are they ENSLAVED too. in lahore you can get the local models if you can pay enuff cash. are they being exploited too. are they dumb piece of shit?

in the big cities a lot of girls from good families would do it casually. at some bunglow for a few thousand rupees in order to meet her lavish lifestyle…. is she being degraded too.

the female celebrities who also wrok as whores if your some big shot and can pay a few hundred thousand rupees for a night. if that woman is being EXPLOITED than mind you every teacher, nurse, clerk, docotr is being exploited too and should join this profession.

i agree that MOST prostitutes are the ones who were FORCED by one reason or another.
but a lot of them are in it just for the easy money and bcos of their loose morals. they can easily live decently by wroking at some respectable profession. and they are completely responsible for that and you and me and everyone else HAVE NO REASON TO SHOW ANY SYMPATHY FOR THOSE WHORES.

im sure you are one of those people who say “no woman will ever do it unless she is forced”
and what about female strippers and pornstars… are they being exploited too?

okay then tell me one thing…. what about MALE PROSTITUTES who cater to the needs women clients??
are they being degraded too? are thye being exploited too? are they enslaved too?
BBULLSHIT! they are lucky bastards…they are getting laid and paid….what else would a man want…lol.
let me tell you MR PRINGLES that if only more truck drivers, construction labourers, coal mine workers and sewer workers had the OPPORTUNITY they would leave their jobs and be happily working as prostities for women!! (its just that there is less demand for gigolos and even if there is demand, women want extremely goodlooking male prostitutes to have sex with)

  • AND ALL THOSE WHO OPPOSE PROSTITUTION.

why is there a need for prostitution?
    because humans need casual sex.

if humans (men and women both) need casual sex they can do it with each other and there will be no such need for someting like prostitution.
BUT when it comes to casual sex women are much more selective and reluctant than men to have casual sex. this means that NOT all men will be able to fulfill their needs of casual sex and hence the need for PROSTITUTES.
that is why the number of female prostitutes is much more.

so all those who oppose prostitution SHOULD ANSWER me first that how can the ordinary guy who cannot find casual sex with normal women fulfill his needs. bcos women are more selective and can easily choose their casual sex partners (men are always willing)

isnt this unfair that some men can get casual sex because they have a higher social standard and looks. but the others remain deprived?

one may wonder here….why should the average guy remain sexuall frustrated? there are average women out there too. for highly attractive guys there are very beautiful girls, for decent looking guys there are pretty girls, for average guys there are average girls and for ugly guys there are ugly girsl (same goes for social status).

BUT it doesnt happen that way. because if the average girls wanted sex they would just walk upto the goodlooking guy and get what she wants.

so tell me what else can explain the need for prostitution?
and what can explian that majority prositutes are females?

  • [...] Update: in Pakistan se pleaca de la 6$. Un reportaj despre avantul industriei sexuale intr-o tara musulmana (in care sunt o gramada de chinezi, ce-i drept) – link aici [...]

  • ghani

thats the way it is dude. sex happens when a woman wishes. and i agree that the average bloke is sexually frustrated wherever you go in the wrold. maybe more in conservative societies.

and youre right when you say that when a woman wants to have casual sex she will only go to an attractive guy in the short term. the jerks

i guess the other guys are left with no choice but to find sex in long term relationships and use other qualities like personality and stuff to get women. or obviously they can go to prostitutes….nothing wrong with that.

  • We often look at prositutes as whores, but we fail to mention that the “johns” visiting the the brothels also lack moral values.

Many of these men have wifes that are of good character that wake up to find themselves with sexually transmitted diseases because the hubbies were visiting “outlets”. The problem of prostitution is centuries old. One way to curb this is to take pictures of the johns and post them in the newspapers and on the web.

  • @ SHAHEEN

    you are an irrational fool

if a married man is cheating on his wife then its wrong no matter whom he cheats with. and he is answerable to his wife for that.

its the CHEATING part that is wrong NOT ‘visiting the prostitute’.

tell me…would it be any better if he is cheating on his wife with a younger woman who lives in the neighbourhood? rather than a prostitute.

and why take pictures of JOHNS going to prostitutes? why not take pictures of JOHNS cheating with some normal regular girls. why not take pictures of several early 30-somthing aunties living in defence cheating on their husbands with young college going dudes from neighbourhood ?

again this whole misandrist propanganda against the average male who is deprived of casual sex socially and has to visit prostitutes.

  • what ever happened comment moderation on sites ? Are you planning on running a ‘facility’ for the brothels to run online ? Cant comments be deleted or moderated for once ! NAHH !! too much now is it? we shall let the whore houses run then i guess !!

  • @Sana

Site Admin might have gone on vocation or planned to discontinue after facilitating their honorable guests.

    @Site Admin

Will you please bother to have a look at the seriousness of the issue?

  • Qurat I don’t think that they are bothered I mean come on there is a lot more then just getting traffic on your blog . I expected the team to be more responsible but this portrays a rather different picture

    Anyways, thanks again!

  • [...] faire comment policy was turning into a brothel. A piece from an international publication on the booming sex trade in Pakistan was posted here. Now it is true that the term sex invites attention and clicks by the browsers. [...]

  • Hi Everyone,

Am from India; i read about this blog on a news site.
Only way to stop the current “behind the wall” moral corruption and sexual crimes in South east Asian countries; is to leagalize the sex trade in these countries. It sounds crazy at first go; but think with an open mind now. This way government can have one more revenue stream. tax their earnings, legalize the trade. People will know; be that from any walk of life; where to go for carrying through their sexual needs.
We need to stop looking at sex and as something wrong, a taboo; give sex education to children in schools, let them know whats AIDS and other STDs are. Tell them what is safe sex and what precautions needs to be taken.

    Its just my $ 0.02.

  • Has anyone wondered if there is a problem of children being sexually abused, and forced into prostitution, especially street children as there are many on the sleezy side roads in lahore ?

I know there is a lot of corruption and drug abuse in Pakistan, so it would not surprise me if this kind of thing is being brushed under the carpet by the ruling powers and police. I have not seen any evidence of this but it would not surprise me if it was happening.

  • It is a very depressing article.

  • Sex Industary was never as open and overwhelming as it is today in Paksitan. I believe the industary has grown to this dangerous level during the previous Musharaf regime. Because Musharaf administration itself supervised the spread of Sex Material like Sex Digest, Vulgur beauty shows, Sex rated CDs and DVDs, Prostitution Dens, Vulgur Parties, Etc, and the list goes on. The Evidence to that is, now you can go to Market Place and can buy Sex rated CDs and DVDs, with out any fear, at as low as 20 and 30 rupees respectively. Same is the case with other material. You can also find youtube Videos of Musharaf and his commerade dancing, drinking and ohter rubish things…In conclusion.no one to blame, but Musharaf’s well orchestrated campaign to spread Sex Industary and immorality in Pakistani society…

  • As we know that sex is essential job for satisfection but it shuold be through a legal way.

  • ha ha ha…
now its time to tell the truth.
you know half of this population including men and women masturbate during their age of 15 to 20.and in rural areas ,gayism is very common which u can see in newz papers.the problem is that
my frends, when a person comes to age of 15 of 16,
he should be married. Now a days, people think it
as a rubbish and usless but i tell u dat.THis IS REALITY.When u need another women and u are not geting satisfied by ur wife as in high allites
you should marry another woman.arabs are not stupid bu they save them from this haram thing .
nikah is sunat. so when islamic teachings are to
forgotton, things in such a society takes place.
net clubs, internet, pornography, porno clips movies etc etc etc are common in our country.allites including beaurucrates, technocrates, army generals and other personal drink ,go to massage parlours for satisfaction.
IF YOU WANT TO CHANGE! THEN DON”T GET BACHELOR……….

  • thanks for the Sex Industry infomation.
it helps me for my presentation.

  • Well I am happy that there is still one industry in pakistan which is booming. Its true that there are always winners even in the worst of economic times.

  • salam i need some best friends i leave in pakistan.my mobile number is 03327811870

  • salam

  • i am asgher i want freindship my age 20 my mobile number 03028885838

  • “Average men”:
Aside from Darwinian observations regarding survival of the fittest, maybe those men should understand that by preferring casual sex, with long-term relationships as a disliked second choice, they’re not exactly helping their chances at getting either.

Teen marriage and “arabs are not stupid but they save them from this haram thing .”:
Teens–especially girls–are not fully mature, physically and mentally, to cope with marriage. That is, in fact, the scientifically supported reality.
As for Arabs…I don’t think I need to say anything. Do read “The Dancing Girls of Lahore” (or “Adama”) for more information about your pious Arabs and about prostitution.

    Prostitution:
I agree that not only is there a tendency amongst people to see the issue from only their own (morally outraged) perspective, there is also a tendency to ignore or deny the overall human rights nightmare that is prostitution.
We have to keep in mind that being willing to do something does not quite equal “choosing” to do something.
Ask a prostitute whether she would like to continue being one if guaranteed similar or better pay for some other job, as well as full social integration, and I doubt she would say yes.
Ask, say, a doctor the same thing, and I doubt he/she would say no. (To put the idea “They are prostitutes because they choose to be.” in perspective.)
In a supply and demand relationship, neither and both can be blamed but the sex industry is unique in that the ‘commodity’ it deals in has too many issues attached for it to be seen in completely economic, social, religious, personal, psychological or biological terms. It must be considered in the light of all of these, and its effects judged on the individual as well as collective scale.

At another post, someone suggested a sexual revolution (like that in the West) would cure this problem. Someone here pointed out that prostitution exists even in the West.
I believe a change in attitudes towards sex, giving people greater freedom to express themselves sexually (not necessarily by being promiscuous but by actually declaring themselves and by being accepted as sexual beings) might do more good than a simple ‘liberation’ on its own.

  • “Ask a prostitute whether she would like to continue being one if guaranteed similar or better pay for some other job, as well as full social integration, and I doubt she would say yes”

Ask the same to a toilet cleaner and he’ll say the same :) lets ban that too?

remove the taboo and illegality, that causes more suffering because the prostitutes just can not organize / fight for their rights.

  • Hello All,

Thanks for your time for sending in your comments. This article has helped us to discuss about this major issue and share our thoughts.

I wish to express my views about William’s research on gay brothels in Peshawar and wish to point our fellow bloggers to this issue widely seen in North West Pakistan. I personally hold no respect for those homosexual hypocrite people no matter what they talk about their inhuman culture and traditions and blame poverty for all this.

During my travel to various countries in Europe where I came across fellow Pakistanis including people particularly from the north west region of Pakistan I always find them extremely rigid and narrow minded, despite living in Europe for years, when it comes to female education and freedom due to either cultural or religious preseason yet same time their views about homosexuality.

For Muslims according to Islam, homosexuality is as errant, as committing adultery with opposite sex then why they don’t feel fear about their own acts instead keep blaming rest of Pakistan for not establishing true shariah in Pakistan.

I do not question anyone’s feelings and love for Islam or their individual relationship with Allah or how good Muslim he/her is.But I’ve question when they pick up weapons to kill their own countrymen, closing girl’s schools and not give any respect to any female professionals in the name of Islam.

  • hello pakistanis: when rifat afridi elopes with a muhajir MPs son you start riots. hhahhaha. pathan ka baccha he. look nadia durrani (wow shahi afgan original pathan) used to go to india and used to stay with sanjay datt, but you had no problem with that. you illiterate nation.

  • Begum Zuaib-un-Hassab ,California

My my what a bunch of hyporcites you all are.!First of all Asif, dear child have you heard of spell-check, your spelling is terrible, did you do your matriculation or did you fail?
Secondly all the dick heads like “shumail
” GHANI” and men who blame women but forget to mention that men or “john’ who are married and frequent customers. While we pretend there is no homsexual activity in Pakistan most men fool around with each other because of the high amount of estrogen that their body emits and there is no outlet so they are arouses with each other? We Muslims are the biggest hyprocrites around in the name of religion we blame the western countires for their culture while we abuse our women and rape and kill them, is there not a high % of child abuse in families? Who the hell are we kidding lets clean our houses before we get on the puplit and scream about others!

  • Working hard to disgrace Pakistan, bast****

go check the stats of rapes done in USA every 2 sec there is a rape done in USA, what about Indian sex markets what about European sex markets where prostitution is legal.

How many girls you tried to help who are doing prostitution for money ?

    Where are the solutions?

  • Just want to respond to what sallo posted on 25-12-2008. Please find some better way to express your anger against a particular ethnic group.I am sure they were never eager to seek your respect on your visits to Europe and your false ego hurt and you have to blame yourself for that.
I have lived a better part of my life through out Pakistan both in major urban centres and rural areas. My observations are quite contrary to the popular persceptions about homosexuality in the north west.Male sex workers were so much in abundance operating in organising manner in Karachi,Lahore since mid 80’s and they were not from poor families, finding their cliental in clifton,M Ali society and Gulberg and Model town.Hassan square being a hub of that activities. In interior sindh and Punjab it is socially admissible activity, so you never know whats going around and at what scale. The existing misperception about ppl from th north has it’s reasons.Karachi,Lahore and Pindi has about 6 million inhabitants from the north. Most of them from labour class in general and staying away from their homes for a long time spans, indulge in child abuse etc.The temptations are always high because of many reasons, with softer consequences one of them as compared to the north west.
I am in no way justifying that disgusting action but if Mr Sallo was ever a victim of such an abuse, then I advice him counselling by a Phsychologist instead of blaming the whole “group” of people. It’s better to bring to books the police and military officers involved in rape of Saamia Naz and Dr Shazia Khalid.
Regarding women education, one can find rigid views in any part of Pakistan and by the way my mother graduated from Kinniard in early 40’s and I am from the North.
Only Taliban can straighten, your corrupt and hypocrite elite,UP.
Further,Mr Saloo I feel sorry for your loose cultural background.

  • So brothers and sisters I am confused. Do Muslim men bonk other men ? This is acceptable because we do not allow pre-martial sex? Is this simple groping or do men really do the act. What is the % of men that have had sexual contact with other men 3 out of every 5. I am doing a documentary for CNN and BBC called : Gay partime Muslim men. This documentary was funded by the Gay and
Lesbian, Transgender Muslim Men and Women from North America. This group claims to have a membership of 40,000 world wide and is gaining
wide acceptance for this tolerance. I have shocking
film footage of gay behaviour from the hills of Quetta to Lahore to Karachi. We had hidden camera of religious leaders in the acts of fornicaion
that will ‘blow’ the lid of religious hypocrites which I am sure many of you men can relate.
Thanks for the wonders of technology we can expose these creeps who pretend to be religious leaders then fornicate for their sexual pleaseure.

  • Someone mentioned something about toilet cleaners:of course. But this job doesn’t reveal too much of society’s hypocrisy.I am not for banning since it would just soothe the ego and guilt of that society.I am for decriminalizing prostitution in every way and working on improving the lives of those involved–they are human beings too,and deserve to be respected like everyone else. And someone else mentioned estrogen:the male sex drive is related to testosterone, not estrogen.

  • Sex is normal, we have made it taboo..

those who understood it and the situation and the demand for release

Made it their business, and fulfilled the Demand.

    simple as that…

The sex trades not just in pakistan but in all cultures rises from a common source…

    Carnal desires…
they are natural and if unfullfilled they increase…

The reason of life is to live and to propagate..

The pleasure involved from the act of sex is no more than an incentive to get the the gene pool propogated and distributed as much as possible before the mechanisms breaks down…

Of all the animals it is only man that has control of his carnal desires… animals &%$* when and where they get the chance…

but even higher brain functions can only hold you off for so long… :)

this is where the Business part comes in…
and as long as there is libido and lust
there will be red lights and one nights….
and cash to get them Rx (As Required..)

  • i,m really very upset to read this kind of colum
i know there is kind of people who are doing this bloody business say Prostitution or sex or call girl working any have very bed people,

  • Dear Namkeen,

I am appalled with your justification for homosexuality and having very soft corner towards them and your deep understanding about their operations in all over the Pakistan, and same time pro-Taliban views.

My dear brother this issue is not only in Pakistan you’ll find homosexuality in every part of the world including Arab Peninsula. What I tried to mention here was the hypocrite approach of particularly some people from North West, not all. Everyone knows there are large numbers of people in rest of Pakistan who are in this practice as well but they at least don’t kill people in the name of religion or culture as much as they pretend. And list doesn’t end here large number of people been involved in drug trafficking, child smuggling, weapons etc. List goes on… they are even not ready to accept rest of Pakistan as a Muslims State. Despite taking every possible benefit from the State, though at its minimum, they don’t respect it. And please now don’t tell it’s all because they are poor and lack of development and education is the only reason. Everyone knows not the whole community is like that but still there are large numbers of hypocrite people exist there and now taking parts in the movements in the name of religion against Pakistan. Why there is large number of youth as salaried soldier in the Taliban army, same homosexuals in fact for whom I believe you have very soft corner as they are fighting in the name of ISLAM in your books… Please get some help!!! I am not concerned what is happening in the rest of the world but I do care about my own country and its issues, and this is one important issue for our future generations, and yes I don’t need to explain or justify anything to anyone including you.

It’s not your fault if you cannot handle a decent conversation without being personal despite your mother graduated from Kinniard. And by the way you’re carefully chosen name “NAMKEEN” what does it tell about you?

  • @ where ever there is Secularism,
one can expect such debauch of sex,
    perverse and corrupt, degrading and
    unhealthy, unsocial, abusive precipitations
because there are sexmeniacs Dallals of
Peoples Party’s feudals and punjabi waderas.
    Punjab might become Pakistan’s worst
    sexual brothelic hell.

  • please try to understand that prostitution in pakistan is an off shoot of poverty and I am sure no women in whole world wants to be indulged in this feild at her on will. You all should thank Allah that U r saved.

  • its all happens because, we are not following the islam.I think the Solution of this problem is the marriage of boys and girls in age of 18. and in this connection Govt. and civil society should play role in mobilizing people for Simple marriage. the Prostitution after marriage is bcoz of sexual market , when market is down , they will also leave ……………….

(but one thing is clear that most of the bloger have found this by searching for sex like that in Pakistan)………. why we are doing this ,,,,,,, what is the problem of these bloger…… how they reached to this blog) ……… think:

  • [...] House, there’s not only posts on political developements but also stories on subjects like Pakistan’s booming sex industry. Pak Tea House calls itself a blog-zine, which “is a little corner in the blogosphere that [...]

  • It seems like William Sparrow is delighted by the fact that sex industry is booming in Pakistan. His article also projects is deep satisfaction that the great efforts of his corrupt forefathers has finally shown results on Pakistan. He deserves a congratulation note on this great success.
People like William oppose a pure and unpolluted respectable lady in scarf, as he wants to see them in a different picture, compared to his own women back home, in a “Please bang my wife” culture.
William and people of his type, unaware of the concept of purity, have more respect for his country women who sleep with dogs, donkeys and are not even ashamed when humiliated in the worse possible manners.
I wish to live the era, when women in the west will know their true values, stop their men from exploiting them and live to the standard of those holy ladies who gave birth to Prophets. My advice to William, try not to inject adultery, infidelity and nudity in nations. Try to propagate purity and heavenly protocols set by your creator.
Don’t feel happy because prostitution is booming in a nation because we are not feeling happy for the prostitution in your country. Respect women, they were not born for prostitution. Prostitution is bad, will always remain bad and we don’t want your and our women to be involved.

  • Very good information. I don’t know what is its origin, but very good article. I didn’t know much about this and its seriousness.

  • its true that a lot of models and actresses do prostitute in pakistan but the real culprits are the brothel runners/pimps and clients. they should be a few merciless killings of these people and it will reuslt in closure of a lot of brothels if not all.

  • women in pakistan are also hypocrites. they oppose polygamy which helps in stemming prostitution. there are a lot of girls who dont get rishtas from bachelors .they can become a second, third or fourth wife but due to family pressure men are afraid to take multiple wives and therefore find it easier to resort to whores. most pakistani wives dont satisfy their husbands sexually as sex is considered dirty by pakistani women and only used as a necessity to get pregnant. girls in pakistan from a young age are told that sex is a filthy act and its a taboo to discuss it. this makes them shy of sex yet on their wedding night they are expected to perform with passion.
parents in pakistan dont even hold hands in front of their children let alone kiss or fondle. this creates an impression among kids especially girls that sexual relations are obscene. girls in pakistan are also prevented from choosing their own husbands and most end up with the choice of their fathers.
there are millions of pakistani females who are widows, divorcees, not very good looking, handicapped or just from poor backgrounds unable to have a dowry. who will wed them? but a first wifes wants to remain the only wife and therefore these women have no real chance of being married.
a huge number of pakistani men of marriageable age have gone abroad permanently and married foreigners.this has made a bachelor a rare commodity in pakistan. polygamy is the only solution. there are many young women willing to wed a older man become a second or third wife but unless society changes men will act like cowards and visit brothels. my grandfather had two wives and it was common in those days to have more than one wife. now if a man takes a second wife his first wife makes a hue and cry and calls him cruel.the truth is pakistani wives prefer that their husbands fuck around rather than stay pious and take a second wife.

  • I think you must have had a really strange relationship with your mum. And not much luck with your marriage :)

  • @Chris Hayes

It’s going to take a while to get used to seeing you amble around without your head. Ah, well! Think of the fortune you’ll save in headgear. And shampoos, and hair gel. Not to mention combs and brushes. Heavens, it goes on a bit, now that one gets stuck into it: the price of haircuts, then, quite forgot about that. Scarves. Would you get a sore throat? No nasty colds anyway, so no expenditure on over the counter cold cures which never do anything much anyway. And, oh! I nearly forgot: no kohl either.

    There’s always a bright side.

  • And I’ll lose several pounds of ugly fat! Chop.

  • “the truth is pakistani wives prefer that their husbands fuck around rather than stay pious and take a second wife”

Remind me to look for a Pakistani wife.

  • Actually I bought Will Sparrow’s book ‘ Bangkok Daze and Red Light Nights’ at some airport somewhere. Very interesting account of sex tourism across Asia.

  • Naeem Ahmed Bajwa

I am curious, when this topic is going to lose it position in “top post”ranking.

  • There are more Pakistani men who marry “foreign girls’ then the other way around. Pakistani men are very selfish, they feel that they rule in the sex/bedroom and the woman is put there for them to get climax and bear children. Pakistani men are not existent when it comes to foreplay, its slam bam- no thanku memsahib!
As a Pakistani young woman I like my men well groomed and take care of their body with exercise and good clothes. I need them to see also my desires. Some moron wrote earlier that the models and actresses were selling their bodies so what you consider the men are doing?
Prostitution is exisitent since decades and man will always desire woman outside his marriage, so it shud be legalised all over the world.
If man wants sex and woman want to give it to him she sud be compensated.
    End of discussion

  • I am a bit appalled at the comment section — how come the PTH allows telephone numbers listed for people trying to frequent potential sex suitors? PTH is a reputable blog, and to see such crude comments is a bit surprising that it got printed in the first place. I am not suggesting censorship, but the standards established by the contents on this site is not parallel to what I am reading in this particular post. People like “Ghani” should be locked in some assylum. And “Asif” who obviously has spelling issues, came to this blog looking for an escort. wow…

Raza, some of these comments where people are freely endorsing their telephone numbers /msn id’s should be not encouraged. Your blog is of dignity and intellectual-friendly debates. Hope you consider my friendly request to moderate the comments.

    regards,
    SSD
p.s hope you are keeping well.

  • Well, I got into a debate with a colleague once who contended that Islam’s allowing polygamy actually gives women protection and respect unlike the kind of insecurity that has proliferated in Western society for women along with their independence.

Certainly, you cannot blame Islam’s perhaps cover-up sort of rules for the surgence of this market today. It is even perhaps, the growth of an apathetic, modern capitalist society that is ruining the West in this manner as well. Of course, there they are back and forth about legalizing prostitution.

I don’t know what sort of “modern manner” the author is suggesting then. That is a very cryptic conclusion of the article.

  • A lot of guys argue that it is natural, etc. Well, you should have thought of that when you were building a society and getting bank balances and sports cars while locking women up in houses and hijabs.

Now that we have a society, there is no argument for what is natural and all that bs.

As someone mentioned, it is all Musharaf’s doing. The truth is that average guys are often frustrated BECAUSE they have more freedom to know about sex than girls– not because their libido is higher than girls.

Someone said that guys’ libido is run by testosterone– well, men have both estrogen and testosterone and what the original comment meant was that the estrogen can become dominant at times.

I think Sohail wrote that girls are taught to think of sex as a bad thing– well, what happens when women’s sexual lib happens? Look at the Western society and tell me please. They think that everything goes and actually face peer and societal pressure to see all kinds of sexuality as alright. These days there is a fad for posing as lesbians to attract guys!

I think that Pakistan needs to reverse what Musharaf has done and even whatever else was present from before. I strongly think that sex is an addication and a product of indolence that will grow the more you vent it. Innocence is possible in men and women both as was the case in previous times as people were relatively more innocent even if the whole society was not entirely so. Yes there have been self-indulgent groups in the world ever since who knows and these days it’s the West that we have to blame. But it doesn’t mean that because there have been such groups, that is the only natural thing and that is what we must follow.

People need to vent more energy into work and excercise so that their indolence doesn’t make their minds so effeminate and sexual all the time. This goes for both men and women. It’s a fact that the more you put your mind to work the less you will have idle thoughts. It’s simply how you balance the chemicals of your brain.

And someone is really exaggerating about the scarcity of marriagable guys in Pakistan.

On the other hand, divorce with full support could be made more acceptable and common so that both men and women can remarry as much as they can afford to and like. Marriage has to stay in the first place for keeping financial tracks. This will also not go against religion so much. Generally it should be ok for two people to separate after the child is around 9 let’s say. This way they wouldn’t have to have children with the same partner and people would have less children due to the gap between each child which would really help society.

  • Even a layman can judge from this lame ending of the article by william sparrow that he is desperate enough for all traces of islam to be removed from our society, to blame it for actually giving rise to prostitution and pimping. The theory about polygamy’s effects is hilarious. Practically, it does the opposite: it would support Sandra rather than push her into evil.

We have our Quran to tell us what’s right so you all can stop with the suggestions. Corrupted governments don’t mean bad or corrupted religion. Of course, one day a non-american govt will be established and we’ll do it our way. Also, remember no one could stop us CUZ WE CREATED THE COUNTRY IN THE NAME OF ISLAM.

I don’t give a darn what he means by ‘modern’ here..Yes, this problem will be solved, but by destroying all such places. Fingers crossed until true leaders come up, and then it will happen..

INSHALLAH!! (cuz we know the word cuts deep)

  • the chinese are notorious in this.in kabul they opened many brothels disguised as restaurants in 2003-4.

i was a sub contractor of US firm louis burger and i met many LBGI guys like stephen long and so many others in chinese restaurants every evening.

later in 2007 the US forces started a drive against these chinese brothels fearing their intelligence threat.

rates of chinese women went down as 25 USD per trip in 2006.

most were old or in between 30 and 50 imported from backward provinces of china.

my afghan guards routinely visited these brothels and one major i had hired as my security officer often had free trips with force of his uniform and police issued 9 mm pistol.

  • brothel culture is very old in pakistan, talamba near multan is a historic brothel with a rich history.

lalamusa at one time was a famous brothel.

pindi had serai beli ram which existed when my grand fathers grandfather was a risladar in a cavalry unit in pindi in 1856.

kabul had reka khana for dancers in shahr e kunha.in dr najeebs time prostitution was confined to certain old and known areas.in taliban time it existed although secretly.many talibs married prostitutes when kabul was captured in 1996 because the prostitutes were good in everything starting from lobbying to you name anything.

lahore has had its famous heera mandi

the chinese are a new phenomenon.

everything has existed here its only that the society is based on hypocrisy.
