he was but a shadow of my former sylph

May 5, 2008

oh the dreams that i dreams
of one day dreaming sunday’s dreams
on fry day instead… break
the cycle so to speaking of
which do you know the witch
who went under the wire and
in between the howitzer and the
why it’s a mystery to you i
don’t know him who did not know
the history of these daisies
growing wild beneath my toes
cushioning footfalls as i sneak up on you
practising my peek-a-boo technique
on a wispy shadow flitting
from side to side by
candlelight that gently sways
to breezes that blow
back to winterland
your hinterland
my international hideaway in days
when you knew (you thought) me well
wished him hell
particularly on nights like these
bending your knees to magnify
his shortcomings
both in terms of length
and staying the distance
time and time and time again
and he never once complained
